LONDON. Jan. 22. The trial was continued to-day before Mr. Justice Avory of the former police sergeant Goddard, Liugi Ribuffii and Mrs. Meyrick on charges of bribery in connection with night clubs. All three accused havo pleaded not guilty. Constable John Wilkin, who was under Goddard until October 31, 1928, when the latter was retired, stated in evidence that sometimes he had utilised Goddard's tips on horse-racing, which were exceptionally good. He only remembered one occasion when thev were not successful. Witness mentioned one occasion when Goddard telephoned from a public box outside a night club and told Madame Ahier, of the Jokers' Club, that a raid was going to take place. He also gave details of other occasions when Goddard by telephone or otherwise had warned owners ol night clubs that raids were in prospect. The constable said Goddard had destroyed a number of police notebooks which ought to have been returned to the subdivisiorial inspector when they were filled. Cross-examined witness said thero was nothing in tJ;■ - notebooks to affect Goddard. The proceedings were adjourned.
