MR. RUDOLPH LEHMANN.

LONDON, Jan. 22. The death is announced of Mr. Rudolph Lehmann, journalist and author. Deceased formerly was a member of tho staff of Punch and at one time a member of Parliament. lie was 73 years of age.

Mr. Rudolph Chambers Lehmann was a member of the staff of Punch from 1890 to 1019. He was born near Sheffield on January 3, 1856. Educated at llighgatc School and Trinity College, Cambridge, lie was admitted lo tho Bar at Inner Temple in 1880. Jle edited the Daily News in 1901. From 1906 11 he represented the Hnrborough division of Leicester in the 1 louse of Commons in the Liberal interests. Mr. Lehmann was part author <f Dale and Lehinarin's "Digest of Over-ruled Cases." 110 wrote many works, includ ing "Mr. Punch's Prize" Novels." "Conversational Hints to Young Shooters," "Adventures of Picklock Holes," "The Complete Oarsman," "Memories of Half a Century," "Light and Shade," "Charles Dickens as Editor," " Sportsmen and Others," "A Spark Divine," and "The Vagabond." Mr. Lehmann was well known in rowing circles and was president of the Leander Club, 1894-95.

Australian Press Association —United Service. (Received January 23, 5.5 p.m.) LONDON, Jan. 22. Tho death has occurred of Colonel C. J. Deshon, formerly of tho Royal Artillery, in his 89th year.

The late Colonel Charles .L Deshon was born on December 18. 1840. H e served in Burma, 1886-7, and was mentioned in despatches. Ho was a member of the Hazara Expedition, 1888, and was awarded the D.S.O.
