Tfie Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr. Winston Churchill, stated in the House of Commons that the Government svmpa thised with the endeavours being made to produce opera in Britain, but was not prepared to give financial assistance.
Mr. J Bromley, Labour member for Barrow-in-Furness: Has not sufficient public money been spent on the opera bouffe °f 'he present Government?
Mr. Churchill: I h ave no acquaintance w ith opera bouffe, though occasionally I am brought into contact with low. comedians. (Laughter.),
