BAND TEST MUSIC.

BROADCAST BY RADIO.

PROTEST TO THE ASSOCIATION

[nV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.]

Yv'AXG ANt.'l, Wednesday. A protest against the broadcasting from the Wellington station 011 Sunday niornins of a gramophone recoril of " Moorside Suite," ono of the A grado selections for tho band contest to bo held here in the last week in February, was inado in a letter to the North Islands Band Association, received at tho meeting of the Contest Committee to-night. Tho letter pointed out that tho rules prevented the playinij of test music in tho town \vhei6 the contests were being held, yet a record could be sent over tho air. It was claimed that tho Broadcasting Company had filched the rights of the Bands Association to provide something fresh at the contest, rights for which the association had paid £6O.

The chairman, Mr. F. Symes, expressed a doubt if they could control tho wireless. The only course was to ask the company to refrain from using any of the contest music until the contest was over. If a bandmaster choso to follow tho interpretation put on a piece by another combination playing for gramophono records that was his own business and it did not necessarily mean that it would have any effect on the judge. No action was taken in the matter.
