HAY AND ENSILAGE.
ACTIVITY AT MATAMATA
[BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] MATAMATA, Wednesday
Large quantities of liny are being marie in the Muturnnta district this summer, and tho amount is greatly in excess of last year's harvest. Judging by the stacks and pits, there is quite a third more winter fodder being saved this season. Such a result has been made possible by the phenomenal growth of grass. Ensilage is in much favour, and never before was there anything like the present quantity being made. New methods and variations of old ones arc being triedThe rains did very little damage to hay crops, so that ample food for the winter is assured. Unless very dry weather occurs there will be an excellent growth of autumn grass, valuable for winter depasturing.
