TO-DAY'S WEATHER.

HERALD'S SPECIAL FORECAST.

The following weather forecast for 24 hours from 7 a.m. to-day was supplied to us by Mr. 11. M. Vincent last evening:— Showery and unsettled weather is indicated, particularly in places near the west coast of both islands, and in southern districts, but fair intervals should intervene, especially in northern areas. Expect much cooler weather, conditions becoming temporarily cold and wintry. Hail and tliun der are likely in districts bordering on the west coast, while there is a probability of a slight snowfall 011 the high country of tho south. Westerly winds, strong to gale, and squally, backing to south Hough to heavy seas on the southern Tasrnaj) Sea, and tho west coasts of New Zealand, and fairly rough in the Buy of Plenty, also in the region of Cook Strait; mainly moderate elsewhore. Boisterous weather is expected, the South Island being mainly affected. Tho westerly disturbance lias increased in intensity, and barometric pressure is now low throughout the Dominion. Tho tropical cyclone is moving south-eastwards to tho Pacific. Atmospheric pressure should increase everywhere shortly. Barometer, midnight, steady .. 29.50 in. Midnight, Tuesday .. 29.65 in.

GOVERNMENT REPORT. Tho Government meteorologist reported last evening as follows: —An intense depression covering the New Zealand area is gradually moving eastward. A moderate anti-cyelono is located over tho western Tasmnn Sea. Indications are'for moderate to strong south-west to southerly winds, reaching gale force at places. Seas generally rough in New Zealand waters. In the Tasmau Sea strong southerly winds to gales, with rough seas in the eastern portion. Weather squally and changeable, with rain in' most districts and some heavy falls. Thunder probable in places on tho east coast of the North Island. Cool temperatures.
