ANNUAL PICNICS.
Waterside workers throughout New Zealand held their annual picnics yesterday. Fine weather conditions prevailed for the Auckland waterside workers' picnic, which was held at ('owes Bay. About 1500 people left the Northern Wharf 011 the steamer Rangit.oto at 9.30 and a quick trip was made down the harbour. The day was spent in swimming and rambling around (he beach, and a sports programme, which included many novel events, was successfully organised. A recitation competition for the children attracted 43 entrants, and other entertainments added to the success of the picnic. The Auckland Waterside Workers' Union Silver Band played many popular selections during the day. The staff of the Health Department held its annual picnic yesterday, the place chosen being Motuihi Island. Those taking part included the headquarters staff, tho dental school staff, and tho nursing division, and to tho number of about 80 they rnado the trip by special launch.
