The annual sale of yearlings was held at Trent ham to-day in fine weather. There was a large attendance, but, as usual on these occasions, there were more spectators than buyers. Bidding for some of the lots was slow, but tho choice youngsters attracted plenty of competition, some good prices being realised, topped ofT by a record for Agrion's brother.

Tho catalogue of Pyne, Gould, Guinness, Ltd., Christchurch, and W. Inglis and Son, Sydney occupied tho morning, Mr. Inglis being the auctioneer. The top price was securei for Nada's colt by the Lemberg horse Weathervane, !\lr. V. Riddiford taking this half-brother to Gold Buck and Nadarino for 500 guineas. The progeny of another untried siro Arausio (by Sunstarj were in considerable request. Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Company, Wellington, and 11. Chishohn and Company, of Sydney, provided the afternoon catalogue, with Mj" K. Austin actiuc as auctioneer. This section of the sale opened quietly, hut it livened up with tin.- appearance of the Chief Ruler—Rosellate colt, for whom there was spirited competition. until his purchase by Mr. C. Elgur, owner of the Wellington Cup winner Vertigern, for 1300 guineas. He is a good-looking colt from a. staying family. The ical excitement came with the arrival of Mr. (>. M. Clinic's draft. Bids came quick and fast for the colt by Limond from Waterwings, a full brother to the New Zealand Derby winner. Agrion. lie fell to the bid of Mr. V. Riddiford at 2400 guineas. Messrs. G. D. Greenwood. T. H. Lowry. and the Sydney owner. E._ Moss, were the other bidders. The price paid for this colt, was a New Zealand record, being a hundred more than was paid for Honour last year. This did not exhaust, the demand for the Limond youngsters. Mr. Greenwood paying 1400 guineas for Ihe sister to Commendation, while Mr. T. IT. Lowry went to_ 3500 guineas to secure the sister to Episode and Honour. A good looking Paper Money colt, from the Australian-bred inare Graceful excited somo competition, and AVeathervane's progeny again commanded attention.
