REQUEST TO GOVERNMENT

[BV TELEGRAPH. —OWN CO. !)K NT. ] TE AWA'MUTU. Wednesday.

A further step in the mai'ei of utilising more effectively the large at ea of domain leasehold land at Pirongia, was made at a meeting of leaseholders of reserves aritl domain lands, presided over by Mr. T. C. Grace. It was decided to ask Ihe Government for authority to dispose of a considerable area under the Glasgow lease system. During (he discussion it was shown that,, with a total of less than 1000 freehold town sections, comprising the east and west townships of Pirongia, there was almost the same sized area set aside as reserves. With the exception ot the racecourse, which is being excluded from the present proposal, the 'llO acres administered by the Domain Hoard are divided into seven sections, most ot them in a poor state of cultivation owing chiefly to the nature of the lease under which the lands are held

borne ol those at the meeting wanted a portion of the reserves sold, but a majority decided in favour of a Glasgow lease. A committee was appointed to advance tho proposals.
