WINTER INDUSTRIAL SHOW.

Sir, —Palmerston North has a very good permanent building for the excellent show held there annually. has the same and has had for years. Wellington built a new building of considerable extent for the show held there last winter. What is the matter with Auckland ? The continued use of the Harbour Board sheds seems foolish in view of the great cost of adapting them to the needs of the occasion. The expense of roofing over the space between the sheds year after year must amount to something approximating the total cost of a suitable building. Then many exhibitors are put to the expense of flooring their stands if these are to be rendered comfortable, whereas in a suitable building the floor would also be suitable. While on the subject of exhibitors one might remark that the promoters of the show get these gentlemen (the exhibitors) going and coming. The promoters charge a continually increasing sum for space. That is practically all the promoters do. The exhibitor has to make the place attractive and provide the draw which brings the public to the show. The promoters charge an ever-increasing price for admission, and become year by year more independent. One lias only to recall th® shows of some years ago to note the many names of .Auckland exhibitors who no longer exhibit. There is a reason for that. One of these is that, like myself, they will not. show again while the exhibition is held in the wharf sheds. The climate is a little too inclement there. A friend if mine met his death following a severe cold contracted (here and 1 myself and my staff, as well as the staffs of most of tho stands around mine, were all laid up. As an exhibitor for several years I urge the erection of a decent building and moderate treatment for the exhibitors who make the show. Exhibitor.
