Sir, —I recollect that on a former occasion, in your columns, Mr. Norman E. Burton brought out that futile comparison of his between England and the United States, and was ably met by the -rejoinder that he had utterly ignored the whole racial and political history of the two nations. It is a comparison that one cannot disparage unduly. .Religious instruction, which is given in some of the States, has had precisely no effect in lowering the disproportionate crime records of which Mr. Burton speaks. That exemplifies my point, from which Mr. Burton digressed, that religious instruction or exercises has had no sensible effect in other countries in that the moral standard of these is lower than our secularly educated Dominion. I do not want "to know any mor* about secular bogeys from Mr. Burton. J desire that gentleman to quote the "lurid descriptions" which he alleged appeared in my league's circular to school teachers, C. E. Major,
