LAWN TENNIS.
MOUNT ALBERT CLUB. The official opening of the Mount Albert Tennis Club's courts took place (n Saturday. The president of the club, Mr. H. J. Ellis, referred to the financial position of the club. He stated that nearly £SOO had been spent in laying down three hard courts at the rear of the pavilion, and this had necessitated an overdraft. The club was, however, now in a position to acoept .more members, six gra»3 and thj-ee chip courts being available. Mr, Ellis referred appre- ' datively to the work of the honorary ground superintendent, Mr, S. F. Woodroffe, and of the ground-keeper, Mr. W. Freeman. The beautiful gardens were a distinctive feature of the club's grounds. Mr. Ellis hoped the season would bo successful. It was anticipated that three teams would be entered for the inter-club competitions. Two courts had been set aside for the exclusive use of junior players, who were offered membership at a reduced fee. Mr. Ellis also referred to the opportunities the club offered for winter play. A progressive tournament was played during the afternoon, and afternoon tea wan sferved.
