ARMISTICE SERVICE.
BIRKDALE SCHOOL FUNCTION. The annual Armistice Memorial Service in commemoration of 12 former pupils of the Birkdale School who were killed in the Great War, was held yesterday afternoon. Proceedings opened in the Birkdale Methodist Hall, where addresses were delivered by Messrs. E. C. Cutten, S.M., Horace Stabbing and the Rev. J. H. Allen, and a memorial laurel wreath was placed by two boy pupils on the school roll of honour, containing the names of nearly 70 ex-pupils who served in the war. Appropriate hymns were sung. Mr. A. Bentley presided at the piano. The gathering then adjourned to the public school ground, where 12 girl pupils each laid a wreath at the foot of one of the 12 memorial trees commemorating the memory of the ex-pupils who had fallen. The school flag was dipped, the " Last Post " was sounded by Mr. C. Patten, and the Benediction was pronounced by the Rev. J. H. Allen. The girl guides and brownies, under Mrs. R. Usher, district commissioner, Captain Doris Hayman and Lieutenant Nellie Fisher, formed the guard of honour.
