WAITEMATA POWER BOARD
& MEMBER'S OBJECTION
In connection with the purchase by the Waitemata Power Board of a site in Albert Street for the erection of offices and show-room, Mr. A. E. Grccnslade, a member of the board, writes to say that he recorded his dissent from the policy ot' utilising any of the £200,000 loan for the purchase of city property. This would, he states, reduce the amount available for the reticulation of the area, whereas the object of the loan was to supply light and power as far as possible to the various districts. . He considers that all necessary oflice accommodation at Auckland should be rented. The amount allowed by the engineer when formulating the Waitemata electrification scheme, he adds, was £6OOO, •whereas the purchase just completed, with building, would absorb £15,C00, and with depots already arranged for, would bring the board's commitments to nearly £22,000 —more than 10 per cent, of the loan.
