LARGE AREAS SUBMERGED. MAIL-MAN BELIEVED DROWNED. Australian and" N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 1.15 a.m.) SYDNEY. Juno 21. Heavy and continuous rain and cyclonic winds continue over the north and south coasts and southern tablelands. As a result large tracts of country are under water and the whole countryside is flooded at Canberra and Braidwood, where the catchment area is submerged. Telegraphic communication with all southern towns is seriously interrupted. The railway lines are under water. Detachments of police with flood boats have been despatched to Forbes, where apparently Lachlan is flooded. There is no news from the north coast, but the gale's severity has abated and the cyclone is moving south. Shipping circles state that the gale is the heaviest experienced for many years. A mail-man at Quenbeyan is missing, and has apparently been drowned in the flood waters.
