VICTORY FOR CANTERBURY,

MARGIN OF 192 RUNS.

AUCKLAND BATSMEN'S STAND. [Br TELEG&ATH.— ASSOCIATION.] CHRISTCHURCH. Monday. The Plrmket Shield match was concluded to-day, Canterbury winning by 192 runs. That the best side won thero can be little doubt. The Auckiandfirs possibly did not show their beet batting form, but for the matter of that Canterbury were probably worth more runs than they made bad they been wanted.

Canterbury's six wickets to-day only added 81 runs, and the batsmen took risks they would not have done had their side riot been in such a strong position. The Aucklanders' out cricket was a distinct improvement on that of the first innings, and the catches given were unfailingly held. A Auckland's batting to-day was a distinct improvement On the first innings. 5. R. Garrard's top score of 52 was made by sound cricket. Horspool'e 49 was also a good innings. Midlano gave the most spirited display on the side He was always looking for runs, and his 28 were made in quick time, mostly by good leg strokes. Mcßeth was again the star bowler for Canterbury, and his six wickets for 112 runs was a good performance. The local men again acquitted themselves very well in the field. The wicket wore remarkably well, and probably played better to-day than it did orr the' first day. The total taken at the gates for the three days was £203. Scores :— CANTERBURY.
