A.R.C. WINTER MEETING., THE CONCLUDING DAY. COALITION WINS WINTER STEEPLEV/f- • . CHASE. Fix* weather again favoured tho Auckland Racing Club for tho concluding day's racing in connection with the Great Northern Steeplechase meeting at Ellerslie yesterday. As a result of the rain which fell on Sunday (lie track was on the heavy aide, though seme really interesting racing took place. The attendance _ was Quito as large as registered on opening,, day, while the general arrangements left nothing to' bo desired. The only matter of note engaging the attention, of the stewards was an inquiry into the failuro of Messrs. W. M. Taylor and E. W. Alison to notify tho club that their horse". Revenue tnd Golden Petal, should hare been bracketed in tho Fitzroy Welter Handicap. A fine of £5 each was made againai the owners concerned.. . In a field of ten saddled up to contest the Winter Steeplechase. Coalition always stood cut as a good favourite, and he was returned . a winner With Hautere bowling along baldly in front two fences' from home, and t. favourite fairly at his top, matters did bo» appear altogether safe for Coalition. The Jiuestion was. however, to be speedily settled, for Hautere struck and foil, and what promised to be an interesting finish was spoiled. Moddile cam# along with , a good run from 'the head of the straight, but Coalition always had the measure of his black rival, and lie - won comfortably at the end. In tho decision of the York Welter Handicap. Parisian Diamond once again demonitrated his brilliancy over a mile course by carrying the steadier of list 121b to victory. The son of Charlemagne 11. made his effort inside the distance, and ho won his race in fine styleBon Revo demonstrated in' the settlement of the Remuera Hurdle Raco that his victory ] in the Great Northern Hurdle Race was well deserved, for he won yesterday under a stone I additional weight. j It was left for the concluding event, the ! Fitzroy Handicap, to furnish the groat surprise of the gathering. The favourite division suffered a complete rout, Sanacre, Singular, and Benzine, who filled the places, all hailing from the outside division. ■ Sanacre is an Au«tra'ian-bred fil.y that was imported by Mr. E. W. Alison, jun., and she : was . sold some little time back to Mr. E. j Husiey. v-; .. , . , 1 Glenhow. who fell during the Hunt Club Cup Steeplechase, met with injuries which necessitated his destruction later in the afWnoon. _ ,; . ■ _ The totalizator investments reached £66,519, which showed an increase of £13 044 -over the second day of the last winter meeting, and an increase of £18.190 over the final day last June. Ayers, owing tot a , bereavement in the owner's family, was the best supported of tho runners in the Steeplechase. The former. as usual, played up badly at tho barrier. and was left. , Kiltess and Bagdad led a bunched field, with Trials 'and Ladogeur prominent. Rounding the home bend Trials displaced Bagdad, and Kiltoss fell away. Once the heads were turned for home. Orleans took charge, and,, revelling in the eoing 1 he ran in an easy winner from Trials. Detroit was close up. and then came Bapdad a ' head away, Ladogeur and Lady General. Go d Soult wa-3 left at the post. Moutoa Camp and Torchlight were the best backed in the mile Hack Race.
