WEDDEL CUP AWARD.
CHEESE SHIELD \£ON OUTRIGHT. The results for the 1917-18 season of the two competitions annually carried on by the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral
Association in regard to grading points for butter and cheese were made known yesterday to the .Northern Dairy Conference by Mr. J. M. Phillips, president of the association. The Weddel Cup competition in regard to butter, for the highest average number of points gained by factories in the Auckland Provincial district, as awarded by the Government grader, has been won bv the Pio Pio Dairy Company, Te Ku ; (Mr. E. Tonycliffe, manager), "with 93.169 points. The Weddel Cup has to be won two years in succession or three years at intervals before finally becoming the property of tho winner and an additional £5 prize is awarded to the winning factory for the year.
i In regard to cheese, the prize was the i Champion Shield, valued at 20 guineas, and | £5 to the cheesemaker whose factory outi put for the season gained the largest nnmj ber of points in the grading points compe- | tition. In this case the factories of th • i whole Dominion were competitors. Last | year's winners, the Island Da:rv Company | Wyndham (Mr. G. Dickson.' manager)! again headed the list, with 93.33 points. I By its win in two successive years the | Island Company becomes the absolute I owners of the shield. .The winning fac- | tones in other years were : —1910 Kaponga ; 1911, Greytown ; 1912, no competition ; 1913, Park vale; 1914, Taieri and Peninsula; 1915, Horsham Downs; 1916 Lltham; 1917, Island Dairy Factory' Wyndham.
