MANY SOLDIER RECIPIENTS. A. a.nd N.Z. LONDON. June 2.

The Gazette contains thousands of honours mostly military, on the occasion of the King's Birthday. Lord Rhondda, Minister in Charge of Food Control, is created a viscount.

Three barons have been created, including Mr. George Faber, M.P.

There are seven new privy councillors, including the Leader of the Parliamentary Labour Party, Mr. William Adamson, and the Parliamentary Secretary to the Food Control 'Department, Mr. J. R. Clynes.

Fourteen baronetcies include Messrs. J. G. Butcher, K.C., member for York City; R. L. Harmsworth, member for Caithness ; and the Coal Controller, Mr. J. Calthrop.

The knighthoods include Mr. Alf. Butt, theatrical manager; Mr. J. M. Le Sage, editor of the Daily Telegraph ; and Mr. R. Jeans, editor of the Liverpool Post.

There are hundreds of recipients of the various classes of the Orders of the Bath, St. Michael, and St. George, and the Indian Empire; and thousands of D.S.O.'s, military crosses, and military medals are awarded for services in France, Egypt, and Salonika.

The birthday honours include the award of the Grand Cross of the Order of St. Michael and St. George to Sir George Foster, Canadian Minister for Commerce. A number of Australians are also honoured.

Lord Rhondda, who has done great service to the State in the control of the Food Department, was made a baron in 1916. He sat in. the House of Commons for several years as Mr. David Thomas. He is a successful coal owner, and is managing director of the Cambrian combine and other colliery companies in South Wales. Mr. George Fabcr, M.P., is a partr.or in a banking firm and represents Clapbam as a Conservative.

Mr. J. R. Clynes is Labour member for North-east Manchester. He is secretary of the Lancashire Gasworkers and General Labourers' Union.

Mr. William Adamsnn has represented West Fife in the Labour interest since 1910.

Sir George Foster is a veteran Canadian statesman, and is best known outside Canada for his strong advocacy of preferential trade within the Empire.
