HEAVY FIGHTING FROM THE OURCQ TO THE MARNE.

FRENCH SUCCESSFUL IN COUNTER-ATTACKS. Australian and N.Z. and Router. (Reed. 7.20 p.m.) LONDON. June 3. The latest French communique states: The battle continues, especially north of the Ourcq to the Marne, where the enemy made his main efforts. Our troops withstood the shock of the enemy forces with obstinate bravery. The enemy succeeded in regaining possession of Faverolles, but attacks on C'orcv and Troesnes failed. Our attacks west of Xeuillv drove back the enemy on Passy-en-Yalois. We retook Hill 163, immediately west thereof, after desperate fighting. Further south, on the Torcy-Bouresches front, two successive enemy attack* were broken. On the right wo recaptured Champlat and gained ground in the direction of Ville-en-Tardenois. The situation elsewhere is unchanged.

A German communique states: Despite violent resistance southcast of Xoyon, we pressed back the enemy to the Carlepont and Montagne forests. We captured heights east of Moulin-sous-Touvent and lines west of Xouvron, north of the Aisne. We attacked astride the Ourcq. throwing the enemy back over the Savieres. We captured the heights of Passy and Courchamps, south of the Ourcq. The situation on he Ma rrie is unchanged. We repulsed violent French counter-attacks north-east of Verneuil. We captured an enormous franco-American depot near Fere en-Tardenois.
