The motion was carried with onlv one dissentient. 1 i'K No-License Council's annual convention. held in West Street Church, was concluded yesterday. An expression of lovaltv to the King was carried. Mr. Len. E. Bassett. of Wanganui, outlined the proposals of the New Zealand Alliance for a new and more effective organisation of the prohibition forces of the Dominion. The policy of the alliance was endorsed by the convention. The convention carried a resolution approving the proposal of the New Zealand Alliance to petition Parliament for a poll this year on the National Efficiency Hoard s proposal for national prohibition, and pledging members to do their utmost to make it successful. The Rev. .1. Dawson explained the plans for the coming campa.gn. and sa:d the National Efficiency Bi ard's report had received general approval. He considered that a poll this year would result in prohibition. Though he did not concede any legal right of the trade to compensation. he would not. m view of the great evils arising from the liquor traffic, oppose the payment of a ransom for its immediate suppression. It was resolved that the Government be urged to close Ml hotel bar? on the arrival of troopships conveying returned soldiers, and that approval be expressed at Sir Robert nt's strictures on the attitude of the Government in regard to the proiiib tion of the sale of liquor in the King Country, considering the pledges given to the natives.
