SETTLER'S ORDEAL.
LEG BROKEN IN THREE PLACES LAY ON ROAD FOR 19 HOURS. [BY TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HAMILTON. Thursday. A settler named Patrick O'Brian met with a very painful experience while driving cattle along a by-road on the west side of the Waipa, above Ngaruawahia. There are three gates on the road leading to his selection, and while moving ahead to open one of these the cattle turned back towards Ngaruawahia. As O'Brian was galloping round a sharp bend in pursuit his horse ran into a steep bank at the side and rolled over, breaking the rider's leg in three places. The unfortunate man lay from 4.30 p.m. till 11.30 next forenoon, when a settler chanced to come along and rendered assistance.
