EXTENSION AT KAIPARA

[BY TELEGRAPH. own-

DARGAVILLE. Tuesday. The growth of the private telephone services in the Otamatea and Northern Wairoa districts has led to a scheme, now almost completed, for linking up all the systems, thereby conferring on the various subscribers the fullest benefits obtainable. The Kaipara Telephone Club, which is the Northern Wairoa body, has a membership of 200, whilst the clubs at Maungaturoto, Kaiwaka, Paparoa, Matakohe, Waikiekie, and Mareretu have some 550 ! subscribers. In the early part of the year ! the associations determined to connect" the several lines, and it is anticipated that by the end of the year the greater part 'if Kaipara electorate will be linked up r>y a joint service. In connection with the scheme a con- ! ference was_ held last week at Ruawai, with Mr. \V. Montgomery as chairman. It was resolved that any association charging fees for connection would be forthwith disconnected with the mainlines, that the hours for ci. inection between the Otamatea and Maniruvhare bureaus be from 7.30 a.tn, til' f'.Wa.m., noon till 1 p.m., and 4 p.u. in' 6 p.m., with a possible extension; and that the time limit for conversations be three minutes. A sub-oommitteo was appointed to draft 1 rules and regulations, to which will bo ! appended a full list of subscribers, and i it was decided to hold an annual conference of the amalgamated associations at Paparoa in March.
