FINANCES SATISFACTORY. sP» The financial position of the Auckland Soldiers' Club is at present very satisfactory. The Mayor, Mr. J. H. Gnnson,r| stated yesterday that the executive of the Patriotic Association has paid to the Young Men's Christian Association thej sum of £500, in the terms of the lease, to cover the expenses of altering the building, and also £170 in payment for various floor coverings and furnishings suitable :&' for the purposes of the club- These expenses have been charged to capital account. The current account cf the dob is in a very satisfactory position, as a result of the response to the last appeal and the addition of the amount realised by the recent art union. The committee is still in need of pictures ana other articles for the embellishment of the premises, and further donations of this kind would be welcomed- }S Mr. Gunson added that the club ;is jS well patronised, the membership has increased, and the club is becoming, in the best sense, a home for returned soldiers. The Ladies' Committee continues to do valuable work, and the light meals— f \ are served at a nominal price—are very much appreciated by the men. While in|g Australia, Mr. Gunson met representa- : g; tives of the New South Wales Returned Soldiers* Association, which is amalgamating with similar associations in the other; | States. He attended a meeting of the Auckland Association last evening and , conveyed messages and information from the kindred body in Australia.
