DISTRIBUTION OF HOTELS.
QUESTION OF REGULATION. At the annual meeting of the Manukau Licensing Committee yesterday, Sergeant M. Rogers read the following remit received from the Otaki Licensing Committee: —" That this committee urges the member for the district, Mr. Field, to endeavour to obtain an amendment to the Licensing Act, giving committees discretion to regulate the distribution of licensed houses within their districts, there being at present in some cases too many hotels in one locality and too few in another." Mr. F. V. Frazer, S.M., chairman, stated that as the law stands at present a licensed house could not be moved more than a quarter of a mile from its present position within the boundary of a borough, nor more than one mile '" outside a borough. With regard to the remit, it was not for him, as the official chairman, to discuss. It was for the elected members of the committee to deal with. Mr. J. Rowe expressed himself as in perfect agreement with the resolution, and thought the committee should support it. He moved "That the elected members of the Manukau Licensing Committee acquiesce in the resolution submitted to them by the Otaki Licenuing Committee." The resolution was seconded by Mr. J. Brady and carried.
