DEATH ON ACTIVE SERVICE.
AUCKLAND NURSING SISTER. :( The death occurred in Suva on Jane 16 ~JL of Sister Frances, of Auckland, who wenfi;':":\ to Samoa about five months ago as charge nurse of the military hospital. The body fn' was brought to Auckland by the Makara -s yesterday for interment. , : Sister Fiances was a daughter of tha" - late Mr. A. R. Theodore Haultain, a f f former town clerk of Grey Lynn, who diad -/; about five years ago. She was trained in 'J«9 the Dundee Infirmary, and was a charge ',) sister in the Deaconesses Hospital when, S upon the outbreak of war, it was turned / into a military hospital. Some months ago v she returned to Auckland, and was then appointed to Samoa. She became so ill • ?;; that her mother and sister went to Samoa ~-'■' to faring her home, but she had to be taken ;i from the steamer at Suva, and died thera from meningitis. i|
