THOUSANDS SECEDE. •

Their secession was due partly to the. church taxation, which is 20 to 60 per cent, of the Prussian income tax, and partly to the fact that the socialists dislike the doctrines of the Church. ,'/■ Each secession-requires 'an application to the Court and a statement of a belief in agnosticism. Fifty extra clerks have been engaged to register the defections.
