EXPORTED MOTOR CARS.

MERCHANTS ON TRIAL.

MINUTE CALCULATIONS.

By Telegraph Association— Lonpon, December 31. Further evidence was heard to-day in the case in which four merchants are charged with attempting to defraud the Customs of duty on motor-cars and accessories imported into Australia.

Continuing his statement, Mr. Shorland, general manager of the Clement Talbot Company, stated that the company fixed a* low price for the bodies of their cars. It was to their interest to keep down the value of the dutiable parts. The price of tyres followed the price of rubber, and the company's catalogue allowed for the wearing of tyres in testing the complete car. These allowances of values were based on minute calculation, and in view of the keen competition were vital to the company. The Australian Customs had nothing to do with the figures. These were the same for all parts of the world. The case was again adjourned.
