8 KILLED, MANY INJURED. TENEMENT HOUSE FIRE. PANIC CAUSES DISASTER. LEAPS INTO THE STREET. By Telecraph— Press Association Copyright. New York, January T. Five men and three women were burned to death in a fire in a tenement in the crowded East Side district yesterday. Four people jumped from the fire escapes and were seriously injured, while 15 others were hurt. The fire started on the ground floor, cutting off escape by the stairs. The inmates crowded the fire escapes, some leaped into the street and were killed, whilst others waited for the firemen's arrival. Many escaped over the neighbouring house roofs.
