NEW PARLIAMENT HOUSE.
WORK TO BE COMMENCED. [BT TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] Wellington. Tuesday. The uncertainty, of political affairs is not to bo made a cause for delay in the provision of now accommodation for the legislature. To-day the Minister for Public Works notified the Wellington City Council of the Government's intention to close portions of the streets affected by the scheme It is intended to proceed at once with the widening of Bowen-street to the extent of 16ft 16in. The Hon. R. McKenzio stated to-day that the final design for the new building had not been decided upon. Probably it would be a modification of the first-prize design propared by the Government architect, bat this matter would have to bo decided at a full meeting of Cabinet. Unless the matter was put in train at once there would bo interminable delay. Though the new building was urgently needed, even now it would bo impossible to provide the accommodation until two sessions had gone past. . . ,■.
