The new post- office at Kingsland will be opened by the- Postmaster-Cieneral at 2.30 p.m. to-day. ; I J ~■;.. . A number of ministers- who have been attending the Methodist ', Conference at Auckland left for the South by last night's Main Trunk express. '"'■■'■' - A distinct improvement has taken place in the condition of Mrs. Jordan, who was admitted to the hospital while suffering from severe injuries through the motor car accident last Friday. It will, however, be many weeks before she is well enough to leave the hospital. ' There were 295 prisoners, in. the Auckland Gaol at the end of last week. Of these 278 were serving various terms of imprisonment with hard labour, eight were awaiting trial, three were on remand, and a similar number were life prisoners. During the week 58 were received, and three discharged. , The following tenders were received by the Point Chevalier Road Board yesterday for work on the Point Chevalier Beach Road for which a Government grant has been obtained:—H. M-vttson, £142 10s; Pooley and Leighton, £149 ss. The grant for Gladstone Road is being spejit by day labour.
