ALLEGED ILL-TREATMENT.
THE WAIHI CASE. [BT TELEGRAPH. —OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Tuesday. The hearing of the charge against George and Beatrice Dennis, who, it is alleged, ill-treated Georgina Dennis, mother of the male defendant, was continued at the Magistrate's Court to-day, before Mr. F. J. Burgess, S.M. For the defence, Mr. Clendon contended that the old lady had not made any statement in her evidence which charged either of tha accused with ill-treatment, and that there was no evidence whatever against, the male defendant. His Worship agreed with this latter contention, and also remarked that there was nothing to implicate him in the acts of the female accused. The charges against George Dennis were accordingly dismissed. Evidence was then called for the defence of Beatrice Dennis, who was placed in the witness box. She admitted having pushed her mother-in-law on one occasion, but gave a general denial to the allegations of ill-treatment. The case is still proceeding.
