PERSONAL ITEMS FROM LONDON.
[PROM- our OWN CORRESPONDENT.] London, February 7. The most recent callers at 13, Victoriastreet, are: Mrs. H. Scotland (Kaipara), Mrs. M. Naismith (Dunedin) and Miss Naismith, Mr. W. Hewitson (Dunedin). It is gazetted that Major-General A. PolePenton, C.V.0., C.B. (one time Commandant of the New Zealand Forces), now commanding Royal Artillery at Malta, is to succeed Major-General F. A. Bowles, G. 8., in the command of the South-western poast Defences, from April 18 next. Among the passengers by the Bemuera when she sails next week will be Mrs. Rhodes, of The Grange, Wellington, who is returning with Mr. and Mrs. W. H. S. Moorhouse, after having spent about nine months in the Old Country. Recently Mrs. Rhodes has been staying at Southsea with Dr. and Mrs. Adams (Wellington). Mrs. Scotland (widow of the late Hon. H. Scotland, M.L.C.) has planned to spend the spring months in her native county, Cornwall. She will remain in the United Kingdom until the early summer, when she will cross to the United States with the idea of staying there for a month before joining at Vancouver the New Zealandbound steamer in July or August.
