INDUSTRIAL ASSOCIATION.

A PRIZE FOR THE COMPETITIONS. The Executive Committee of the Auckland Industrial Association met yesterday. Present: —Messrs. B. Buttle (chairman), A. Burt, J. Wilson, G. C. Garlick, H. C. Clark, W. H. Atkin, S. J. Nathan, A. I?-, Snedden, A. McColl, A. Bell, Geo. George, and H. Dearsley. The chairman said the attendance at the meeting . constituted a record, and he congratulated the members on this fact.

A letter was received from Mr. Scott Colville (managing secretary of the Auckland Competitions Society) pointing out that the Canterbury Industrial Association had donated £10 10s to the Christchurch Competitions Society as a prize for a special essay on a subject in sympathy with the ideals of the association. It was suggested that the Auckland Association should contribute for a similar object at the Auckland competitions. The suggestion met with much favour, and a resolution was carried unanimously, "That it be an instruction to the incoming committee to take the matter into favourable consideration."

A telegram was received from the Canterbury Industrial Association, stating that the association had telegraphed to the Prime Minister, expressing appreciation of that part of the Governor's Speech referring to the revision of the tariff, in the interests of local industries, and suggesting that the Auckland Association should do the same. Members of the executive pointed out that there would probably be another Governor's Speech when the House met in June, so it was resolved to defer any action as suggested in the telegram until then. The question of nomination of officers for the ensuing year came up for consideration. Mr. Buttle announced that he would not seek re-election for the office of president. He had held the position for two years, but he considered it was desirable that the office should go round. Ho thanked members for the hearty co-opera-tion he had received from them during his terms of office.

It was decided to hold the annual meeting and dinner on Tuesday, April 16. The matter of speakers and other details was left in the hands of the Executive Committee, with power to act.
