ROAD BOARDS.

EPSOM. The Epsom, Board met last night. Present : Mr. W. B. Bloomfleld (chairman), and Messrs. W. Jones, R. G. Clark, and A. McDonald. An agreement with the Mount Boskill Road Board with regard to maintenance of Stoney Road, Tho Drive, etc., was approved. One tender was received tor the contract of forming a footpath on the Epsom-Mount Albert Road. The price was £55, but, as this was greatly in excess of the Board's estimate, it was decided to return the tender and to carry out the work by the Board's own workmen.

MOUNT WELLINGTON.

The Mount Wellington Road Board met on Monday. Present: Messrs. I. Wyniex (chairman). A. S. Thompson, George Kay, S. Hainan, and Jan. Wood. Messrs. Heiluby, Limited, wrote askingtho Board to effect repairs to the Great South Road opposite their property at Westfield, and it was decided to instruct tho surfaceman to do tho work, and also to repair tho Quarry Hood within the Domain. Permits tor 12 months were granted to Messrs. Hellaby, Limited, and tho Union Oil and Soap Company, Limited, to carry on their trades at Westifcld in the terms of tho Board's by-laws. In respect to the application of the New Zealand Drug Company, it was resolved that a permit for 12 months be granted, but in the meantime the Board would expect tho company to make improvements in resrurd to acid fumes, which at times are very objectionable. The clerk was instructed to suggest tho advisability of raising the chimney stack. The application ol tho Auckland Meat Company was declined, on the motion of Mr. Wymer. seconded by Mr. Jas. Wood. The clerk was instructed to intimate to the company that the Board could not see its way to grant a permit until 'the nuisance arising from noxious fumes is abated. Mr. Bailey attended the meeting and submitted plans and sections for forming a new road from the OtahuhuPanmure Road to Penrose, covering a distance ui length of about 160 chains. Tho road m question will open up a vast amount of land and shorten the distance from Hamlin's and Dunne's properties, abutting on the Otahumi-Panmure Road, to Penrose station. The plans were approved so far as the grades and formation were concerned, subject to the recommendation made by Mr. Ross, that tho angles of the road at each change of direction be rounded off. Mr. Bailey agreed that Mr. J. W. Harrison should call for tenders. Mr. Ross, the treasurer, reported that if lie were successful in collecting all tho outstanding rates the Hoard would end the financial year with a credit balance of about £100, which, in. view of the large amount of work clone on the roads in the district, the members considered wai very satisfactory. It was resolved that the 10 per cent, penalty on all unpaid rate* after the 31so of this month bo enforced. ;
