'.Watts. . , Major-General Godley will inspect the 11th (North Auckland)" Mounted Rifles in «amp at Whangarei on Saturday, April ■27, instead of on Friday, April 26, as originally fixed. The Colonial Auxiliary Forces'' long service medal has been awarded to W. W. Higginson, lata sergeant, No. 1 Squadron, Waikato Mounted Rifles. At an . examination recently held at Whangarei Captain J. P. Stevenson, 15th (North Auckland) Regiment, and Captain R. W. Camming, 16th (Waikato) Regiment, qualified or promotion, to the rank of major. lieutenant-Colonel Allen Bell, officer commanding the 4th (Waikato) Mounted Rifles, has resigned his commission. Supernumerary Lieutenant-Colonel G. A. . Ward has been appointed lieutenantcolonel, and has taken .over LieutenantColonel Bell's duties. Officers commanding units are being instructed to,take steps immediately for the provision of rifle ranges, up to 600 yds, within an hour's walk of the headquarters of each troop ot, mounted rifles and section of infantry. jThis is an indication that now the tentorial scheme is in working order rifle practice »will be vigorously proceeded with.
H As was foreshadowed on this column a few weeks ago, the transfers of several officers to the New Zealand Post and Telegraph Carps lirar© been cancelled. The officers in the Auckland district, who are affected by the matter are: Lieutenants (V C Parker (>fcw Zealand Garrison Artillery), H. L. Slyfield (New Zealand Engineers), and V. Dunne (3rd Auckland Regiment)., and. Secimd-laeutemint R. C. Calbraith.
Examination boards will sitA at Auckland, Hamilton, and Whaugarei, on Wednesday and Thursday, March 20 and 21, to superintend ■ the examination of officers of the Territonal Force for promotion, in examinations *B" and "D..
