LAWN TENNIS.
NOTES AND COMMENTSTho play-off for the championship of the third grado in the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association's inter-club matches, 'between Eden and Epsom, IH. and Birkenhead 1., respective winners of the A and B divisions', resulted in a comfortable win for the homo team by eight matches to five. The courts were rather heavy, and before ono match had been played a shower sent the players to tho pavilion for a few minutes. From this on the tennis balls were wet and tho courts greasy, so that good tennis was out of tho question. Tho Eden and Epsom ladies were rather strong for their opponents, winning four out of six matches played. Tho men wore more even, and, although the local men won in the singles, the Birkenhead players, with more combination, won tho majority of the doubles.
