HOW CONCILIATION WORKS.
RECORD OF CASES. [BY TELEGRATH.— correspondent.} Wellington, Tuesday. A summary of the disputes dealt with by the Conciliation Commissioners and Councils from the date of their appointments, on January 21, 1909, to November 30, 1908, appears in this month's New Zealand Labour Journal. In the Wellington-Marlborough- Nelson - WesUand district 23 cases were dealt with, nine were considered with assessors, one being referred to the Court, while eight were settled; 14 were considered without assessors, 10 being settled, and four referred to the Court. In the Auckland-Taranaki district, 23 cases were listed, five out of the 13 being settled with assessors, and eight . referred to the Court; eight were considered without assessors, and five were settled, while one was referred to the Court. Eighteen out of 27 cases in the Canterbury -Otago-Southland district " were" con-, sidered with assessors, and eight of these were referred *o the Court,, 10 being settled ; of the nine dealt with without assessors, all but one was settled. ■.'.' In the aggregate, the Commissioners had 73 cases before them, - the respective records being as follows: —With assessors, 40 cases settled 33, referred to the, Court 17; without .assessors, 31 cases, settled 25, referred to the Court,, 6. Two Auckland cases are still pending final settlement. ■ In one Auckland case the "dispute was divided into 6ix sections, one .was settled, and five were referred to the Court.
