DESTRUCTIVE FIRS AT THE MAUKU.
A eiuk ocourred at the reiiiidenoe of Mr. Frank Kavanagh, on Saturday, December 24, at about twelve noon, by which the house and contents, dairy, stab -, and cowshed were completely deittroyed. It appears that Mr«. Kavanagh had been may baking at >» colonial oven, and having < scmion to go to the bade premises, on her return to the kitchen found it all on fire. Evidently fire had fallen from the top cI the oven on to some chips left below. Shu at once gave the alarm, and amiifcUnoe wan noon at hand, and an effort maiim to save the furniture, bat the fire had got auch a firm he d of the building that little wins got out, and as the wind wan towardn the outbuildings they were .very soon on fire and quickly destroyed, and harness, saddles, etc., all w ire burned. Mr. F. Ka/anagh was from home, and only sated the clothes be had on. The New Zealand Insurance Company held a risk of £200 on the bouse, «md the South British had £53 on the furniture. —[Own Correspondent. 1
