A NIHILIST MANIFESTO.
The most recent utterance of the Nihilists is an epistle addressed to " Russian Society from tho Russian Revolutionists," It speakß of the determination of the Revolutionists to the tight for "land and liberty," but : acknowledges that thoy are suffering from the loss of their best leaders, and sorely distressed for means, which all " fellow-citizens" are earnestly exhortod to furnish without delay. It is claimed, and not withoiit'an appearance of truth, that autocracy has been dragged by the deeds of the "terrorists", to the edge of a precipice over which! it must speedily, disappear. Tho life of the present Emperor is not directly threatened; but it is distinctly stated that the assassination of his father was due to hia obstinate inattention to the legitimate wants and wishes of his people ; and the policy which fosters the prejudices of the ignorant masses against the "intelligence" of the country is justly denounced. It is declared that • Russia is over-rnn at present with a whole army of spies, men and women of the worst characters,' who seek to ferret oat those infected with " liberal " ideas. The document ends with a reference to the war with Germany whielx the Government is drifting towards, to the sure defeat and disgrace of Russia. Germany, it in said, treats -Russia in a way that one mau could not treat another withpnt receiving a blow in the face; , and " Bismarck, it may be affirmed, -without fear of error, treats his wife's'chambermaid more politely than he does the Russian Go-. verriment.":s The last woods' of the manifesto' are.:—" The party will' 'continue to' pursue arbitrary power into 'its"last I 'hiding-places, % and your part,fellow-citizens,is to; famish the 'ne'cbßßarjr.smeivs of war i bo let*ns be allies 1"
