The. report is of the most decided charactor. :It amply. vindicates the action of those who at some Tistaxd trouble determined, to: expose : tie frauds which were being perpetrated lipon the colony. The .corn inittee'y state that, the evidence discloses " a widespread sad systematic evasion of the law." ilie report specifies that in certain cases licenses have been issued for lands which are being made use of by large squatters under agreement with those who obtained : them from the Land Board, . and . they recommend that the land be resumed by the Crown. In some cases, where sections of laud had been purchased., for bona fide occupation, the. committee report that the ostensible purchasers are not in a position to occupy, and that the deposits had been paid by a large squatting firm.: It is recommended that, in these cases the sale be annulled, arid the land resumed by the Crown.. The committee recommend certain alterations in the law, and that a Royal Commission be issued to investigate cases which the committee have not time, to inquire, into. The report will cause no -little, sensation iri .Qtago. There seems no doubt that the policy of the country in regard to the Grown lands of Oiago has been largely defeated by the operations of powerful people.
