SATURDAY EVENING CONCERTS.

The third of the series of Mr. Pooley's Saturday evening popular concerts, under the patronage of the Mayor and City Councillors, took place on Saturday evening, at the Theatre Royal. It was devoted solely to operatic music. As on the previous Saturday night, the building was filled by a thoroughly representative audience. The concert opened with the National Anthem by the Garrison Band, under the efficient coaductorsbip of Bandmaster Morris (the audience standing), after which they executed a selection from "Lucia di J.amoiermoor," in a style which prepared the house for their subsequent brilliant performances. The duetto, "La ci Darem" (Mozart), by lira. Revitt and Mr. Gordon Gooch, was well received, as was also the aria, " Dio Possente" (Gounod), by Mr. iiussell. Madame Pooley was encored in the aria " Le Parlate d'Amor" (Gounod), and responded with "I Dreamt that 1 Dwelt inMarble Halls"(Balfe), which was also warm'y applauded. Tlie Garrison Band then play i d with precision and taste a selection from Verdi, "Elmira." Mr. Gordon Gooch was encored in the aria " Non Piu Andrai" (Mozirt), and responded by singiug the English version or it ; and Mr. Jus-ph Hanna received a similar compliment for his rendering of "M 1 Appari" (Flotow). The trio " Queen of the Nighs," by Madame Pooley, Miss Tapper, and Mr, Gooch, which closed the firsr, part of the entertainment, was heartily applauded. The second part opened with a selection "Don Giovanni" (Mozirt), by the Garrison Band, which was spiritedly rendered and favourably received, as was also the trio "Mountain Sylph'' by Mrs. Revitt, Mr. Hanna, and Mr. Gooch. Mr. Burnham, who was in excellent voice, was encored in the aria "Non e Ver,"as was also Mr. Gordon Gooch in "Hark! the Clarion Sounding," but the latter gentleman, though the encore was an enthusiastic one, contented himself with bowing his acknowledgments. One of the gems of the evening was the recit. and duet, "Si la stanchezzi" (Verdi) by Madame Pooley and Mr. Burnham, and an imperative encore was the result. Mrs. Revitt rendered with much taste the recit. and aria, "The Power of Love," and was very favourably received. " Kathleen Mavourneen," by Mr. Joseph Hanna, and a selection from "lolanthe" (Sullivan), executed by the Garrison Band, closed one of the most successful concerts of the series yet given. The accompaniments were effectively played by Messrs. Po dey and Slater. Next Saturday night's concert will be devoted entirely to Irish music.
