The important arrival during the past month has been tho barque Alice, from London, on the 18th ultimo ; and the departure for the mother country and the same port has been the Alexanclrina, —her ear«o ■will be presently shown. The East Lothian, bound for New York, with about 20 tons flax and 275 tons kauri gum, will positively sail for her destination this week. Tbe Alice, 627 tons, has been chartered by IVlessrs. Rolph Sterry and Co., for the same port of the United States, prior to hsr loading, she has to convey car-') to Canterbury (South Island), and on°her return, the latter part of October, she will commence taking in car go and probablv clear with a full appoiutment of gum and flax about the middle of .November.

The Excelsior, bound for London, has on board about 350 tons kauri gum and (sundries, and will sail about the 20th instant, conveying of course much other colonijl aud South Sea produce, besides gold. The Beth Shan has commenced loading for London, and has already on board 130 tons gum. The Nevada, conveying the English mail Tia San Francisco, arrived here on Wednesday, the 6th August. By her arrived the Honorable Julius Vogel, the Colonial Treasurer of iN'ew Zealand. Her arrival was welcomed with great interest ; to him, with the greater experience he has gained, we shall look for the development of our futuro commercial policy.

We may as wellcommenca our introductory remarks by giving the exports of gold. The exports of gold this month (August), have been : 20,963 ozs. 9 dwts. 10 grs., Yalued at £112,583, dity paid thereon £3417 2s 5d ; in addition tho Lord Ashley took away on account of September, 14,515 ozs. 2 dirts, gold, of the Talue of £41,515, duty £1270 15s. We reported the gold exported in July as 44,097 ozs., of the raluo of £161,463 ; duty, £4948 ss. The total exports to date of the precious metal for tho quarter, will be £315,5G1. To this will have to be added the balance of the September month, in gold, and the Talue of our other exports. The Azexanbrina. The following is tho total quantity and Talue of the cargo of the ship Alexandrina.

Gold by this ship amounted to the value of £74,350, and is included in the exports of gold. The total exports from Auckland for the quarter ended September are expected to reach, inclusive of every export, half a million—a result unprecedented in the annals of this province.
