The non-arrival of the English mail is causing considerable disappointment, and business, in consequence, to some extent has been curtailed. The Zelandia- is having quick despatch, as a large portion of her cargo is already and Captain "Rose expects to complete it in another week. The month has opened up quietly, but will no doubt improve as the new goods come to hand. Stocks in every line are in good supply, but quotations remain moderately /inn. Mr. C. AV. Turner intends submitting a large assortment of general merchandize by auction, on the 7th inst. ; and the residt to some extent will have the effect of fixing values iu several lines. The demand for teas continues inanimate, and the prices obtained are far from satisfactory. Good orange pekoes and gunpowder meet with a few inquiries, as the last shipment brought a very small proportion of these qualities. Sugars remain sluggish, but in the face of this, holders have advanced quotations somewhat, as Mauritius advices appear favourable for an advance. Kerosene has slightly improved, and buyers now are freely giving 2s 9d to 2s 10d." Candles are slow of sale, and no present improvement appears probable. A few sales have been made at lljd to Is. The demand for currants referred to in last week's report still continues, and stocks are reducing fast. Xew fruit is freely quitted at 4.1 dto od.
