Mr F. Harrison, secretaiy of the Wellington District Law Society, sends us by direction of the president the following resolutions passed at the annual meeting of the society on Monday night, protesting against hasty legislation and against the delay in the publication of statutes: That this meeting records an emphatic protest against the hasty passage through Parliament of important legislation without proper and adequate consideration." "That this meeting also protests against the delay in the publication of statutes, and suggests that no alteration of the law, except in matters of urgent necessity, should be brought into operation until a reasonable time after the passing of the Act affecting such alteration." The Law Society deserves credit for public spirit in taking this action. Cynics are fond of saying that lawyers are secretly pleased at hasty legislation because it makes it easier for them to drive the proverbial coach and six through such statutes. The Wellington Law Society is not open to that sneer. As for the delay in publishing the statutes in fancy we hear the voice of Government Printer Marcus Marks protesting that he is snowed Tinder with more work than he has got hands to tackle. By the way, Mr Phin. Levy has just Jbeen re-elected president of the Wellington Law Society, and Mr E. P. Bunny is vicepresident.
