AGRICULTURE IN NEW YORK STATE.

There are in New York Stale 243,058 farrat, of which 201,186 ar* cultivated by the owneia. It is generally stipulated that hay and coarse fodder shall be ftd on the farm, as the farmyard manure is tbt on'y source for maintaining fertility. In many of the localities potatoei and beans are grown extensively, Som* of the best farmer think a one-year olovor ley the best to break up for Indian corn or potatoes. Farmyard or stable manure is applied for tho Indian corn orop on the olovoi ley ; for the barley or oats aWout2oottm of superphosphate are u»ed per aorr, and tho same dressing is put on for thti winter wheat. With this system the whtat yield is from 15 to 40 busheln per acre, that of barley from 30 to 50 bushel*, and of oats from 40 to 60 bushels per acre. The hay is from 2 to :! tons per acre the first year, and 1J to 2 tons the second.
