Jamos C. B.ignall was committed for trial to-day on a charge of breaking into tho shop of John Goodman, ami Bto,iling 14 pairs of boots. Mr E. W. Humphreys, a candul.ito for Christcluircli Noi'lli, addressed a large meeting in St. Lnko's School to-night, and received a vote of confidence. lie announced himself a Hiioporter of the present Government, and was in favor of a reduction of mombors to 70, but was •opposed to tho formation of Rmall charitable aid districts. He accepted the present Customs tariff, but reserved tho right of considering any proposed alterations thereto on their merits. Lodge Canterbury, 1048, E.C., tonight carried a motion in favor of a United Gr.vnd Lodge for tho colony by a substantial majority.
