When tlio property tax assessor* valuations in Hawkes Bay were sent in they showed largo reductions, and the department appointed a secret committee of rovisois in each district. This was the only provincial district in which such a course was adopted. Tlio revisers largely increased the valuation*. This caused a largo number of objections, and great intercHl has been taken in the sittings of the Board of Reviewers. Several atattempts wero made to get the names of tho revisers, but Mr Crombi©, doputy commissioner, absolutely declined to give them up, notwithstanding tlio protests of the objectors that they were thereby placed to a great disadvantage, Many objections wero sustained, and many failed. The net result has been an increaso in the Ilawkes Bay county assessor^ values of L2G,928,
