RIFLE SHOOTING.
MAITAI KIFLE CLUB, The Maitai Rifle Club were favoured with splendid^ weather for their openin° day to Saturday last. The shooting took S^n 0 ? w Sr W ian S e ' which w situated on Mr J. W. Newport's property Proofc StreetVaUey. Shutter SrgTfivebeS instituted marking thereby being greatly facilitated and much time saved. Mounds are now being constructed at the various ranges, and when these are completed the range will be equal to any in the diskS'- «i. fa * r nu ? nber of competitors took part in the opening match, which was for a trophy presented by Uv William Lock, The ranges were W and 500 yards, seven shots at each, and some good scores resuited, Mr Jafaes Sharland proving the JjJJ ncr witha score of 63.
