THE BRUNNER RELIEF FUND.

ITo the Editor of "The Evening Mail." Sin — May I solioit an odd corner In your widely ciroulatrd journal to ask the Nelson Committee of the Brunnerton Relief Fund ] to permit me to make a EUggestion as to the expenditure of all money collected? Let the fund be called "The Brunnerton Widows and Orphans and General Relief Fund," and let it be invested solely in tbe interests of tbo Brunoer sufferers till each child shall reach the age of say 16 years, when the principal shall remain a standing reserve to meet the need of any widows and orphans who may be in similar distress. For be it ever remembered that every day that rolls away leaves on record the names of some poor sufferers whoso oircumstanoss may be equally painful, though not so wholesale as the late disaster. Therefore, sir, it appears to me a grand idea for our "land of plenty" to hold such a valuable fund ever ready to relieve the oppressed without from time to time having to raise it at a moment's notice. Then of course our charitable friends could ever remember the existonco of such a fund, and their privilege and permission to increase the same, till by and by tbo pecuniary need-of a desolate widow or orphan will be a thing of the past as far as beautiful Maoriland is concerned, and a good example will be set for our motherland and all her possessions. I am, etc, J. S. B. [The suggestion made in this letter was fully covered and dealt with in an article in the Maic— Ed. N.E.M.] A concert in aid of the fund will be given at Brightwater this evening and as a good programme has been arranged there should bo a large attendance. A meeting of the Brunner Relief Committee was to be held at the Town Club's office at 4 o'clock this afternoon.
